Aladdin Trouble!
Get ready for a magical carpet ride of laughter, music and mayhem when Bletchfest presents its annual seasonal pantomime, Aladdin Trouble – in which Aladdin is indeed a lad in trouble, at Bletchingley Village Hall on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January 2027.
This year’s panto takes us to the wonderfully chaotic world of Widow Twanky’s Wishee Washee Laundry, where life is anything but clean and tidy!
Our hero, Aladdin, is a hard-working laundry boy with dreams that stretch well beyond the washing and ironing. Things take a romantic turn when he falls head over heels for the beautiful Princess Jasmine. Unfortunately, their love story is anything but straightforward – particularly when the Grand Vizier has designs of his own on the princess.
The Grand Vizier wants to marry Jasmine and, by doing so, take control of the kingdom. Naturally, Aladdin stands in his way, making him a very inconvenient young man indeed. Before long, our hapless hero finds himself imprisoned and in serious trouble.
Fortunately, there is a glimmer of hope in the shape of a rather unusual Genie. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily the competent, all-powerful genie Aladdin might have wished for! With a tendency to get things slightly wrong, the Genie’s attempts to help Aladdin provide plenty of opportunities for the sort of comedy, confusion and chaos that audiences have come to expect from a Bletchfest pantomime.
Add in Widow Twanky, a laundry full of eccentric characters, a scheming Grand Vizier, a beautiful princess, a reluctant hero and a genie who really ought to read the instructions before granting wishes, and there is plenty of scope for things to go spectacularly wrong.
As always, music, laughter, audience participation and plenty of pantomime fun will be at the heart of the production. Whether you are a confirmed panto fan or simply looking for an entertaining way to brighten up the dark days of January, Aladdin Trouble promises an enjoyable outing for the whole family.
Bletchfest’s annual pantomime has become an important part of its programme of theatre and entertainment, helping to bring live performance and plenty of community spirit to Bletchingley. Bletchfest describes its annual pantomime as part of its wider programme celebrating creativity and the performing arts in East Surrey.
So polish your lamps, prepare your best “Oh no it isn’t!” and get ready to discover whether Aladdin can escape the Grand Vizier, win Princess Jasmine’s heart and restore order to the kingdom.
