Bletchfest’s Art & Artisans Exhibition

Bletchfest is delighted to present this year’s Art & Artisans Exhibition, taking place at Grange Meadow Pavilion on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October.

At the heart of the exhibition is a simple aim: to give local artists and craft artisans a platform to showcase their talent, share their creativity and connect directly with the community. We believe there is an enormous wealth of artistic and creative talent on our doorstep, and this exhibition provides an opportunity to celebrate it.

Visitors will discover an inspiring and diverse collection of original artwork and handcrafted creations, with work ranging from paintings and illustrations to woodturned pieces and more. It is a chance to see the skills and imagination of local makers up close, talk to them about their work and learn more about the inspiration and craftsmanship behind each piece.

Whether you are a keen art enthusiast, an experienced collector or simply someone who enjoys discovering something new, there will be plenty to see. And, of course, you may find that perfect one-of-a-kind piece to take home with you.

For the artists and artisans taking part, the exhibition is an opportunity to put their work in front of a wider audience, meet potential customers and fellow creatives, and receive recognition and support from the local community. By coming along, browsing, buying and simply showing an interest, visitors are helping to support the talented independent artists and makers who contribute so much to the character of our area.

Throughout the weekend, Grange Meadow Pavilion will become a vibrant celebration of local creativity, colour and craftsmanship. Entry is free and everyone is welcome.

Our café bar will also be open, providing refreshments while you browse the exhibition and meet the people behind the work.

So come along, discover some of the creative talent right here on our doorstep, meet the makers and perhaps take home something truly special.

Artist Profiles:

Rob Hartley: Born and raised in Cornwall and its landscapes, coastline and ever changing light have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my life. Having recently retired as an Architect having had a great career working for the Metropolitan Police and Greenwich University. I now have more time to devote to my lifelong love of painting. I never seek to be pigeon holed and my work is varied, reflecting the subjects and places that capture my imagination.

James Oliver: Redhill based, neurodiverse artist who has exhibited and sold internationally over the last 15 years, kicked out of the Royal College of Art in the mid 90’s and then fell into a lifetime of working in the mental health and learning disabilities services whilst continuing to create. On a relentless quest to meke things that have never existed before but at the same time feel somewhat familiar to the viewer. Things that fall somewhere between the epicness of the Old Testament and the Odyssey and the playful storytelling of Roger Hargreaves and Jim Henson. A visual communicator at heart, remixing and layering whatever is available to create the next painting, collage or scuplture.

Pauline Johnston: began her artistic journey three years ago after receiving a watercolour painting class as a birthday present. What started as a thoughtful gift soon developed into a lasting passion for painting. Watercolour is Pauline’s favourite medium, allowing her to explore the beauty of light, colour and character through its delicate transparency. More recently, she has also begun experimenting with acrylics, broadening her creative expression and artistic style. Pauline continues to develop her skills through regular workshops with Amanda Ellis and enjoys being part of the creative community at The Hive in Sanderstead, where she learns new techniques and connects with fellow artists. Through Socro, Pauline is delighted to have the opportunity to exhibit her artwork at The Coach House, Coombe Gardens. She hopes her paintings bring viewers as much pleasure as she experiences in creating them.

Julie Payne: has lived most of her life in Whyteleafe and Caterham. Following the loss of her mother, she turned to art as a way of filling a void and discovered a new passion that has brought colour and creativity into her life. Julie enjoys working with alcohol inks and mixed media, creating vibrant and expressive pieces. She also attends classes within the Caterham Craft Room with Amanda Ellis to expand her knowledge and learn more about watercolour techniques. Julie has also recently started producing greeting cards, allowing her artwork to be enjoyed, framed or shared with others. Her work reflects her love of colour and her belief that art can bring joy and positivity to everyday life. She draws inspiration from the colours, patterns and beauty she finds in the world around her. Julie hopes visitors to her collection will find a piece that speaks to them and brings a little colour and happiness into their lives.
