Watching Paint Dry!

Bletchingley’s community open space Grange Meadow serves many functions. As a home for sports activities. football, cricket, rifle club, slot car racing and bowls among them, it also houses a fitness club and a children’s playground. From the preview evening on Friday. attended by invited guests, including our patrons Dame Sarah Goad and Sir Richard Stilgoe and opened by Town Crier Sonia Hunt, through to the close at 4pm on Sunday the whole event drew an appreciative audience.

At BletchFest’s Art in the Pavllion exhibition over the weekend, where 18 talented local artists each displayed an array of different and exciting styles of paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, ceramics and glassware with many offered for sale, Grange Meadow discovered a new use. As an Art Studio.

On a bright and sunny day on an area outside the Pavilion renowned local artist Uncle Stubble 2, responsible for many fantastic murals and artworks adorning East Surrey and beyond, produced a unique artwork using spray paints. Over a period of 3 hours an enthralled audience watched as the art work took shape while local musician Paul Webb provided a great sound track.

Who could imagine literally watching paint dry could be so much fun?

The artwork will be used as a backdrop for all to see at our Music in the Meadow following which it will be offered for sale. Anyone interested in acquiring this unique piece can register their interest via the enquiry form on our webpage here.

You can see the transition from blank canvas to finished art work in the slideshow below.
